If you hadn’t already noticed, Taylor Swift is kind of a big deal for me.
I know all her songs word-for-word, and I sing them all day err day with #noshame.
She is legit my fave thing in the world, so there’s no questioning the fact that I’ve already started planning my outfit for her 1989 World Tour concert (I bought tickets to see her in Sydney since she’s not coming to NZ).
With three months to go and counting down, I began reminiscing on the last Tay Tay concert I went to, which was her Red Tour.
A couple of years ago a group of friends and I all dressed up in our handmade ‘Red’ tops for one of her Auckland shows in the hope that we’d get noticed… and we did!
We were only upgraded to the pit, so we didn’t get to meet Taylor in the flesh… but it didn’t matter to me because I was so close to the stage that I could almost touch her!
Ever since that day I made a promise to myself… a promise that I’d take my costume-making abilities to the next level when my next opportunity to meet her came around.
So I took it upon myself to go on a bit of an Instagram stalk (naturally) to see what types of costumes get fans into Loft ’89 to meet Taylor Swift. It’s okay, you can thank me later.
1. You need to stand out of the crowd – there will be a ton of fans competing to win Tay’s attention, so your costume needs grab attention.
2. Copy one of her stage outfits – this will show Tay that you’ve paid a huge amount of attention to her shows, which therefore means you are indeed a worthy fan.
3. Play on her lyrics and make her laugh – Taylor loves it when her fans get creative.
4. Get noticed by Taylor’s mum Andrea – it’s a long known fact that Taylor’s mum picks out which fans get into Loft ’89.

5. Theme your outfit to your favourite song from the album – this will show Tay that you’re a real fan of her album.

6. Attach lights to your costumes to stand out – again, this is yet another way to help stand out of the crowd.
7. Go with a crowd of people that can all dress up as different characters – just think, the more people you have, the more chances you have at getting picked.
8. Make a poster – this will get you noticed from a distance!
9. Remember that Taylor won’t do Loft ’89 every night of the tour – if she’s doing more than one concert in a particular city, she will only throw a party on one night – so keep that in mind!

Even if you don’t get chosen, you never know if she’ll be stalking your pics on social media after the concert – so take heaps of photos and put them online!
