Encore Fashion Recycle is excited to have recently introduced a sister store to their Ponsonby shop with a brand new pop-up store in Newmarket’s fashionable Osborne Street.
If you’re after near new classy designer labels for half the retail price, Encore Fashion Recycle is the place to go! Encore has a wide range of designer labels including; Hugo Boss, Trelise Cooper, Verge, Day Birger, Alexander Wang, Helen Cherry and Dries van Noten to name only but a few – this pop up store promises fashion heaven for those savvy enough to shop there.
Long loved by fashion enthusiasts, Encore in Ponsonby lays claim as the longest standing fashion retailer on Ponsonby Road – and now with a pop-up store in Newmarket, Encore is widely regarded as offering Auckland’s most extensive collection of recycled and new designer clothing.
I was lucky enough to interview the clever (and may I say, stylish!) woman behind the scenes of this successful business, Siddhi Smith.
How long have you been working as the mastermind behind Encore Fasion Recycle?
I purchased the business 11 years ago, but Encore Fashion Recycle has actually been going for over 35 years to this day. It’s one of Ponsonby’s longest standing fashion stores! I used to go into Encore as a customer years ago.One day I decided that ‘this is something I really want to do’, so I asked the owner of the store if she would ever consider selling her store and I was soon after the proud new owner!
How does Encore Fashion Recycle work?
People bring their clothes into the Ponsonby store and we value them with an added GST price before they get hung up in the store. The point of difference between us and other second hand shops is that we find that our customers really value us letting them know when things are ready to be collected if they haven’t sold.
What are your future plans for the business?
We hope to secure- larger premises in Ponsonby sometime in the near future. The pop up store in Newmarket will only be here for six months so hopefully we can combine our two stores into one mega store by then!
What are your favourite designer labels and why?
I can’t say I have one definite favourite, but here a few of my top picks:
- Scanlan & Theodore – because of their excellent tailoring skills.
- Moochi – this brand offers a great selection of high quality, basic items that every woman needs.
- Marni – Innovative, crazy styles
- Zara/Top Shop – well priced
What do you love most about your job and why?
I love the endless variety of people that come into the shops because they all have their own unique style which really interests me. I get really excited to see what people have brought in to sell and I also love watching the business grow. I learn something new everyday, which is great because it keeps me on my toes!
Describe your own personal style
My personal style changes as often as my hair colour! I would have to say that I like to wear a simple outfit and then glam it up with something unusual or eye catching to make a fashionable statement.
What or who inspires to do keep doing what you’re doing?
There is no individual person as such, but I tend to admire anyone that strives to be different and think outside the square rather than be complacent. I love seeing people who like to challenge themselves and who are passionate about what they do.
